Fangirls, I had high expectations for these issues.  They were blown out of the water.

Cat-FutureEnd

Future’s End is an issue that DC Comics put in many series.  It’s another of their lenticular covers, but it shows where the featured character will be in 5 years.  The issues that follow are to show how the character gets there.  And with Catwoman, her end goal is a beach.

In Catwoman’s issue of Future’s End, she runs Gotham’s underground, as it’s new king pin of crime.  And that’s phenomenal.  But the problem is, there is some infighting.  She alludes to a “thing with Black Mask,” but they don’t divulge further.  So after she cools down a possible gang war (which one of her gang leaders further stamps out by killing the boss that attacked Selina), she and her right hand man head to the car.  He blows it up.  Wanting to take over Gotham’s crime ring, and with access to the accounts holding all of their money, a Falcone blows Selina skyward.  When the other bosses see her death, they attack him.  And when he shows them their bank account (which is empty), he is killed.

Six months later, Selina (or Ilse Weber) is hanging out on the french Riviera, when Ed Nigma (The Riddler) shows up with a couple questions.  He knows almost all of the answers, and relays them to Selina, to then tell her he wants money to keep her secret quiet.  But she laughs at him, because “A riddle is no fun if everyone knows the answer.”

In issue 35, Selina has recently learned that she is part of the Calabrese family, and is working to make a name for herself in the family business.  Her goal is to invest money into Gotham, and clean it up a bit.  But the other crime families aren’t too into losing money for Gotham’s sake.  But she’s determined.

And Gotham is taking notice.  A jewelry show is held with her in mind, and none other than the Bat himself shows up.  They have a conversation about mobs, families, and who Selina really is, and she walks away from him.  I was surprised she didn’t even kiss him.  But she’s got bigger and better things to worry about.  Like one of her relatives is not a fan of her having contact with Batman, or the things she is doing with the city.  The issue ends with Black Mask raiding limos for information, and I’m excited to read more.

I always love reading about Catwoman kicking ass, but I’m digging the businesswoman side of her even more.  I think she’s got it on lock, and way under control.  I’m really impressed with how well she seems to be doing, now if only she can keep her past self from interfering too much, she’ll be all set.

Fangirls, if you haven’t been reading Catwoman, here is a great place to hop on.  She’s in a new place, and the past run is over.  So join me in reading about Gotham’s most badass lady!
